Conditions Treated

Dr. Skaribas is a nationally known expert in Spinal diagnostics and therapeutics, Spinal Cord Stimulation, Neuromodulation, and Interventional Pain Management, for conditions that others struggle to treat. Some of his primary expertise include intractable back/neck/extremity pain as a result of spine surgeries, CRPS1-2, intractable chronic abdominal and pelvic pain as well as treatment of debilitating Migraine Headaches.

Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common chronic conditions and is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Symptoms include muscle ache, shooting or stabbing pain, pain that radiates down your leg, limited flexibility or range of motion of the back.

Sciatica (Lumbar Radiculopathy)

Sciatic pain typically affects one or both of the lower extremities. This condition causes pain to radiate down the leg from the lower back. It is possible for the pain to be in the front, outside, or back of the leg. Gradual or sudden onset are both common.

Failed Back Post-Laminectomy Syndrome

Laminectomy Syndrome is a general term for patients who have had back surgery, but for a number of reasons they may not experienced relief from the pain that they expected.

Cervical Radiculopathy

Pain that generates from the upper spine and spreads to the upper back and shoulders, arms, neck, or chest is cervical radiculopathy. Common symptoms other than pain include numbness or tingling in the hands or fingers, and sometimes weakness in the muscles of the arms and upper back. Causes include degenerative disorders of the spine as well as injury.

CRPS-1 (RSD)

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), typically occurs after an illness or injury that did not directly damage the nerves in the affected limb. The disorder usually affects the arms or legs, and is characterized by swelling, changes to the skin or bones, swelling, and of course pain.

CRPS-2 (Causalgia)

CRPS-2, formerly known as causalgia, is similar to CRPS-1 but is caused by damage to a nerve. Symptoms are generally similar to CRPS-1.

Migraine Headaches

A migraine headache typically affects one half of the head and is characterized by a pulsating pain, is moderate to severe, and is recurrent. Migraine headaches can last anywhere from two to 72 hours. Some other symptoms associated with migraine headaches are nausea, vomiting, and sometimes sensitivity to light or smell.

Neck Pain

Neck pain is localized from the top of the shoulders to the base of skull or head. It is common for neck pain to spread to the upper back and arms, and could cause limited movement to the head and neck. It is a very common issue in older adults, but can occur at any age.

Sacroiliitis

Sacroiliitis is an inflammation of one or both of your sacroiliac joints — situated where your lower spine and pelvis connect. Sacroiliitis can cause pain in your buttocks or lower back, and can extend down one or both legs. Prolonged standing or stair climbing can worsen the pain.

Intractable Abdominal Pain

Intractable pain is chronic pain that is difficult to treat, manage or diagnose. Some of the most common etiologies of chronic abdominal pain that we treat are due to pancreatitis, diverticulosis, irritable bowel syndrome, or chronic abdominal pain due to complications from previous abdominal surgery.

Chronic Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is persistent, non-cyclic pain in the pelvic region lasting more than 6 months. Some of the etiologies of chronic pelvic pain can be neuralgia, interstitial cystitis, chronic pelvic pain after surgery such as a hysterectomy for endometriosis. Often patients can have chronic pelvic pain without any clearly defined etiology.

Diabetic Neuropathy causing Intractable Pain

Patients with diabetic neuropathy can experience an excruciating stabbing type of intractable pain in the feet or legs. HF10 Spinal Cord Stimulation is gaining FDA approval as a treatment for this intractable pain.
